Sahar Shafi DDS is a board-certified Periodontist at Santa Monica Bay Dental, located in Santa Monica, California. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from California State University, Fresno, summa cum laude and then received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She continued on her quest for learning by completing a one-year General Practice residency at Sepulveda Veterans Affairs Medical Center, in North Hills, California, followed by a three-year Periodontal Surgery and Implantology residency at UCLA.
Dr. Shafi is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology while also maintaining active memberships with the American Academy of Periodontology, California Society of Periodontology, California Dental Association, and the West Los Angeles Dental Society. An advocate for education, she is a former lecturer and instructor at UCLA School of Dentistry in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Shafi is an expert in minimally invasive procedures such as flapless extractions, soft tissue grafting, microsurgery, various forms of bone grafting and regenerative procedures just to name a few. She is also a trained professional in full-mouth rehabilitation involving esthetic periodontal plastic surgery, sinus augmentations, and immediate and delayed implant placement. She has superior knowledge in soft tissue grafting and is certified in the Chao Pinhole Technique, a gum grafting approach that involves no incisions, and no sutures. Dr. Shafi stays at the cutting edge of dentistry utilizing L-Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) techniques that enhance hard and soft tissue regeneration using your own growth factors! This technique is used in her practice along side many procedures to shorten healing time, minimize post operative pain, and enhance healing.
